Opinion: Trends in socialism today | The Dickinson press

I am more and more concerned that our country is becoming a socialist country every month under the current administration. It’s alarming for me to see events happening every month that prove my theory:

The dismantling of monuments in some cities of the country does not suit me. I understand that the reason for doing this is to try to erase the bad historical events of our country. By removing these monuments, some believe that in some way we can erase the memories of these events.

Changing our educational system to eliminate the teaching of certain historical events does not suit me either. Again, the idea is that by removing these historical events, students won’t be bothered by the idea that our country was founded by bad people who mistreated other people.

The definancing of police budgets by some cities is something I will never understand! I guess the reasoning is that the police cause some form of racial problem by using brutal force on certain people in our country. Some cities are proposing to divert police budgets to some form of social protection program to enforce the laws.

The new $ 3.5 trillion congressional bill proposes changes to our federal budget to raise taxes for the rich to pay for the program. The money will be used to pay more for things like funding for child care, two years of college education, and more senior benefits. The money will also be used to convert our country from using fossil fuels to renewable types of fuel and electricity.

Other proposals are: increase the number of IRS auditors to monitor the use of money and taxes paid by each citizen; increasing EPA regulations to monitor private companies in their day-to-day operations; and nationalize our voting system to remove voting rules from state governments.

This trend will change our great country from capitalism to socialism in a few years if it is not stopped by us. We cannot change history. It happened ! Demolishing monuments will not erase the event! But, we can learn from bad events in history and teach our children not to repeat those events and ideas. Funding police budgets will not eradicate crime. The first and most important goal of our federal and state governments is to protect people from crime and the invasion of other countries. Reducing the size of police services will lead to more crime. The increase in IRS auditors and the taxation of the rich will cause more companies to move their offices and factories out of the country to evade the IRS and taxes. The increase in EPA regulations will slow down and discourage business activity in our country. Nationalizing our voting system will take away local interest and control over our voting rights and lead to more cheating which will lead to rigged elections in our country.

The $ 3.5 trillion bill will forever change our country from a government of citizen control to a state of government control. What happened to the American way of thinking that “we should take care of our personal life and not depend on someone else”? Parts of the bill are so damaging and costly that it can bankrupt our country! Call your congressman and encourage him to stop this crazy freight train before it goes off the rails!
