Democrats Prefer Socialism Over Capitalism, Fox News Poll Says

A Fox News a poll released earlier this month shows a growing majority of Democratic voters prefer socialism more capitalism.

A majority of Democrats respondents – 59 percent – have a favorable opinion of socialism. While 44% of Democrats view capitalism in a negative light, only 31% of them view socialism in a negative light.

Fox News asked the same question in a February 2020 poll that showed 50% of Democrats said they have a positive view of capitalism and 40% of them have a favorable view of socialism.

Polls have noted a growing trend of more Democrats in favor of socialism in recent years.

In August 2020, a Hill-Harris poll, found that 56% of Democrats viewed socialism positively while 53% viewed capitalism favorably.

As more and more voters viewed capitalism as better than socialism, young Americans are beginning to view socialism more favorably with a slim majority (52%) of voters under 35 seeing it positively.

In August 2018, a Gallup A poll found for the first time that more Democrats viewed socialism favorably than those who viewed capitalism favorably.

In the 2018 poll, 47% of Democrats viewed capitalism positively, up from 56% in 2016. In the 2018 poll, 57% of Democrats viewed socialism positively.

Gallup noted during Obama’s presidency that most voters had a positive view of capitalism, but that it fell under Trump’s presidency. Gallup also noted that instead of describing socialism as government ownership of businesses, Democrats use the word to describe the need for more government regulation to help fund more social programs.
